From satellite data to simulation-ready 3D maps – enabling faster, more accurate antenna and OTA simulation.
Connectivity is a critical pillar of modern vehicle development — from ensuring reliable antenna performance to enabling robust Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. Simulating these systems with accuracy, particularly in dense urban environments, remains a major challenge for automotive engineering teams.
A leading German automotive manufacturer partnered with AVES Reality to address this challenge. The objective was to enable precise, large-scale simulations of radio signal propagation and OTA performance in environments that closely replicate real-world physical conditions. Traditional approaches to preparing such scenarios were too slow, labor-intensive, and lacked the required level of detail. The project called for large-area scenarios of up to 25 km², including topography, building footprints, roads, tunnels, bridges, and vegetation — all while accounting for physical effects such as reflection, scattering, and attenuation.
Using sub-meter resolution satellite and geospatial data, AVES Reality’s AI-powered technology generated simulation-ready HD maps and georeferenced 3D digital twins in a fraction of the time required by conventional methods. These high-fidelity environments were optimized to meet the stringent requirements of antenna and OTA simulation workflows, delivering both speed and accuracy.
Through close collaboration with established partners in simulation and engineering technology, AVES Reality ensured seamless integration of these 3D environments into existing automotive simulation toolchains. This enabled rapid deployment into Hardware-in-the-Loop (H-i-L) and Software-in-the-Loop (S-i-L) setups, reducing engineering effort while increasing the realism and reliability of test results.
The outcome was clear: faster preparation of large-scale simulation environments, improved accuracy in radio signal and OTA performance analysis, and realistic testing scenarios that provided a stronger foundation for design and validation decisions. This project demonstrates how AVES Reality’s technology helps automotive OEMs and suppliers bridge the gap between real-world conditions and virtual testing for connected vehicle systems — enabling faster innovation, more precise validation, and more efficient development cycles.
